Caring for sensitive skin naturally

Sensitive skin naturally

Sensitive skin lacks its own protection. It is often very dry and more prone to redness and skin reactions. Excessively dry skin means that the nerve endings of the skin are no longer adequately protected, and sensitive skin reactions occur more quickly.

Extreme weather conditions (wind, cold, and heat), sunlight, chemicals in skincare products, and excessive use of make-up quickly irritate and dehydrate sensitive skin. Skin diseases and allergic skin reactions can also increase the sensitivity of the skin. These include, for example, eczema, rosacea or allergic contact dermatitis.

In order for the skin to retain its protective function and to avoid severe irritation, it needs sufficient care. With selected foods and household remedies, the skin can be supplied with moisture and valuable nutrients.

Lemon water

Warm lemon water protects the skin from the inside. It provides plenty of vitamin C and many antioxidants that protect against free radical damage. Warm lemon water also helps flush toxins from the blood, reducing acne and blemishes.

For the preparation of warm lemon water: Squeeze ½ lemon and mix the juice in a glass of lukewarm water. Drink the lemon water every morning on an empty stomach at least 30 minutes before breakfast.

Adequate water

The skin needs sufficient moisture. Signs of dehydration are often dry skin, headaches and poor concentration. Drinking 2-3 litres a day provides the skin with moisture while helping to flush out irritating toxins from the body.

Moisture from coconut oil

Coconut oil serves as a natural moisturizer. It has a lot of good fatty acids that moisturize the skin and prevent dryness. Coconut oil penetrates deep into the pores and provides care and moisture from the inside.

Due to its anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties, coconut oil also helps against skin diseases such as psoriasis, dermatitis and eczema.

Simply melt some coconut oil in your hand before going to bed and massage the face, arms and legs with it. Leave on over-night & wash off the next morning. Repeat the application daily.

Care with rose water

Rosewater is one of the best facial tonics for sensitive skin. It protects the skin with its astringent, anti-inflammatory, and antiseptic properties and helps to restore the skin’s natural pH.

Rosewater can be used as a facial toner or a natural make-up remover. As a make-up remover, simply moisten a cotton ball with a little rose water and gently remove the make-up. For use as a tonic, spray the face with a little rose water before bed and massage the water in gently.

With regular use, wrinkles can be prevented, the pores reduced, and the skin supplied with sufficient moisture.

Cleaning with milk

Raw milk cleanses the skin naturally. It has anti-inflammatory & soothing-properties that help against dryness and itching and also provides the skin with moisture.

Simply dip a clean cotton ball in raw milk and dab it on your face. Leave on for 5 to 15 minutes and then wash off with lukewarm water.

Gentle peeling

Regular skin peeling is important for every skin type. Gentle peeling frees the skin surface from dead cells, accelerates regeneration and improves the skin structure.

Regular peeling can also reduce blackheads and blemishes, such as pimples. Applied oils and creams can also be better absorbed.

Peeling for sensitive skin: crush 5-7 fresh strawberries, add some yoghurt and ground oatmeal and mix to a thick paste. Apply the paste to the cleaned face and massage in with gentle movements. Let it take effect for a short while, soaking a clean washcloth in cold water and then cleaning your face—massage coconut oil onto face after peeling.

Note: Very sensitive skin should not be peeled too often. A peeling once or twice a week is sufficient.

Right sunscreen

Sunscreens are very important for sensitive skin to protect against the harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays of the sun. However, the majority of sunscreens contain toxic ingredients or dangerous chemicals that can additionally damage the skin.

It is different from homemade sunscreens with ingredients such as zinc oxide and titanium dioxide. They protect the skin without dangerous side effects.

In summer, winter or on cloudy days, the skin should be protected with sunscreen 30 minutes before going outside. Strong times of the sun (between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.) should be avoided or the body protected with a large sun hat and loose, long clothes.

Selected skincare products

Sensitive skin needs proper care. Cosmetic products with alcohol, sodium lauryl sulfate, petrochemicals, acids, dyes, synthetic fragrances and rough peels often irritate the skin and should be avoided.

Instead, natural products with powerful antioxidants and anti-inflammatory ingredients such as white tea, green tea, aloe vera, chamomile, calendula and oats help to naturally care for the skin.

The fewer ingredients a care product contains, the better it is for the skin.

Cosmetics

Make-up strains and irritates the skin. For sensitive skin, the face should be put on as little make-up as possible to allow the skin to breathe freely. In addition, only make-up that contains little preservatives and is water-soluble should be used. Expensive anti-ageing products can also irritate the skin and lead to blemishes.

Healthy eating

A healthy diet is not only very beneficial for our body, but also for our skin. The skin serves as a natural protective layer, regulates body temperature, helps absorb vitamin D from sunlight, and is involved in the fluid balance.

Certain minerals, vitamins and fats are required so that the skin can continuously perform its tasks. Antioxidants, proteins, omega 3 fatty acids and monounsaturated fats help the skin stay healthy and protect it from dryness and irritation.

Anti-inflammatory foods such as olive oil, garlic, walnuts, avocados, sour cherries, blueberries, turmeric, ginger, wild salmon, spinach and sweet potatoes help improve the function and protective layer of the skin. These foods help fight inflammation and sensitive skin.

Foods containing gluten and soy can, in turn, cause skin irritation and damage sensitive skin. More tips for sensitive skin:

  • Do not wash skin with hot or very warm water.
  • Avoid extreme temperatures.
  • Avoid strong massages, rubbing and harsh cleaning.
  • Avoid smoking and alcohol.
  • Reduce skincare to a minimum.
  • Train blood circulation to the skin. With alternating showers, for example.

Sensitive needs special care. With the help of selected home remedies and the right nutrition, the skin can be protected and cared for in a natural way.

With the right tips

It’s often the small changes in life that make a big difference. We often consider constant fatigue, blemishes, restless sleep, and indigestion to be commonplace and normal. A lot of health problems have their origin in the gut. The intestinal program is a guide to detoxify the body and build an intact intestinal flora.
